Eva and Amos stood there for a second, not moving. Then Amos finally spoke.
"You won't be allowed to stay here. They'll make you leave."
Eva nodded silently.
"Pack a bag. They told us they're coming back."
She walked slowly to her tiny little room, leaving Amos standing in front of his chair where he'd been when the official left. Eva's mother walked in, curious. "What was that all about? What did he want with Eva?"
Amos closed his eyes and sank down into his chair, head in his hands. Eva's mother swallowed.
"Oh." That was all she said.
